Carcinoma of unknown primary (CUP) is represented by a heterogeneous group of diseases all of which have presented with metastasis as the primary manifestation. It remains as a common and challenging clinical problem. The site of origin of a histologically documented carcinoma is not identified clinically in approximately 3% of patients. Accurate prediction of carcinoma primary would guides optimal treatment as well as better clinical outcome.
At present, pathologists adopt a differential diagnosis based on morphology and immunohistochemistry results to predict primaries. Therefore, the clinical decision support system is designed with an aim to integrate pathologist knowledge (Histopathology knowledgebase) with digital image processing and machine learning modelling to develop tools for CUP prediction.
